Ocean forecasts for the Nordic Seas (daily means)

MET Norway's operational ocean model ROMS is run on a 4 km polar-stereographic grid covering the Nordic Seas. The model is run twice daily with atmospheric forcing from ECMWF 0.125 deg, vertical boundary conditions from UKMO FOAM, and tides from TPXO 7.2, to provide forecasts to +240 hrs.


This specific dataset provides daily mean information at various depths in the ocean.

Purpose

En numerisk modell beskriver dynamikken i havet som havnivå variasjoner, bevegelse i havet (vann-kolonnen) som strøm, saltholdighet og temperatur. For å simulere dette benyttes et 3D-grid i ulike størrelser fra fin-skala med detaltjerte beregninger til større grid som representerer større områder og dybder.
