Marine landscape

The map layer features the landscape classification in the sea areas, defined as a larger geographical area with visually uniform character. Purpose

Visualize marine landscape in a way that easily convey knowledge about Norwegian coastal and marine areas for management, industry and research. The main focus is on communicating the latest mapping and research results from the Mareano program, where Marine Landscape is included as part of the MAREANO habitat mapping.

Specific usage

The landscape map is part of the nature type mapping in Norway. Good habitat maps are a premise for being able to make comprehensive plans for the use and protection of nature. Map of marine landscapes can also be used as basis for decision making in the overall land use and environmental planning, vulnerability analyses, habitat mapping etc., or as geomorphological overview map. The level of detail in the data set indicates use within the map scale: 1: 100,000 to 1: 2000,000.
