Dataeier for FKB-spesifikasjonen er Geovekst. Dataene er etablert gjennom Geovekst kartleggingsprosjekter og ajourholdes gjennom Norge digitalt FDV-avtaler mellom kommunene og de øvrige Geovekst-partene i kommunen. FKB-dataene eies i fellesskap av Geovekst-partene.

Unntak fra dette er kommunene Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Trondheim og Bærum som alene er dataeier for sine FKB-data.
