Specific usage

The proportion of sulphur indicates whether the marine deposition environment is free of oxygen. Low sulphur content indicates that there is oxygen present, while a high content indicates that there is little oxygen present. If there is little oxygen present, iron sulphides can be formed in the sediments. Iron sulphides often associate a number of polluting metals.
