Marine limit WMS
The map service consists of individual map layers showing Marine limit and Possibility of marine clay. Marine limit indicates the highest level reached by sea after last glaciation. Marine limit therefore indicates the highest levels of marine sediments (marine and fjord provisions) that are raised to dry land. Data for Marine limit consists of point registrations, lines and polygons. The map service also contains the Possibility of marine clay that is derived from marine limit and superficial deposits, showing where marine clay can potentially be found - either up in the day or under other types of soils/superficial deposits.

Information about marine limit is central in the work of delimiting areas with marine clay in Norway. Issues involving such deposits may be excluded over the marine limit, which is important information in i.a. public planning. Possibility of marine clay can be regarded as an overall chart of care for marine clay. The map service can also be used as basis for susceptibility maps for landslides, quick clay and more.

- Specific usage
-
Information about marine limit is central in the work of delimiting areas with marine clay in Norway. Marin limit indicates the highest level of marine sediments deposited on land. Issues involving such deposits may be excluded over the marine limit, which is important information in i.a. public planning. For example, quick clay and landslides in marine fine-grained deposits and fjord deposits as marine clay only occur under marine limit. Furthermore, groundwater quality below marine limit can be affected by relict salt water and clay can limit the spread of aquifers.
Possibility of marine clay can be regarded as an overall chart of care for marine clay. The map service can also be used as basis for susceptibility maps for landslides, quick clay and more.
