Accumulation basins
This WMS map layer shows selected areas from the dataset "Seabed sediments (grain size), detailed" and indicates where fine sediments are likely to accumulate due to weak bottom currents. Such areas are typically dominated by silty and/or clayey and may include areas with fine-grained sediment deposited on top of coarser material. The map layer is intended for use at map scales 1:10 000 – 1:50 000.

- Specific usage
-
The layer is intended to highlight selected parts of the seabed sediment dataset, showing accumulation areas that are characterized by weak currents and little erosion or transport of finer sediments. Knowledge of these areas may be helpful for spatial planning e.g. when planning waste emission points or aquaculture sites that require high water exchange rates.

- Statement
-
Accumulation basins is based on the data set Seabed sediments (grain size), detailed. The source data for interpretation of Seabed sediments (grain size) is video of the seabed, interpretation of digital reflectivity data, as well as interpretation of analogue and digital seismic data. Acoustic data and video have been verified with analyses of bottom samples. Detailed bathymetry data has supported the interpretation. The data set has been digitized and facilitated using ESRI ArcGIS tools. The methodology is described in the attribute fields “Målemetode” and “GeolPåvisningtype”. Theme codes and properties follow the SOSI standard.
