Thickness of Holocene Sediments in Skagerrak and The Norwegian Trench
The data set shows the thickness of sediments deposited after the last ice age (in the Holocene) in the Skagerrak and Norskerenna south of Stavanger. The thickness varies greatly over the mapped area, from 0 m (no deposition or erosion) to over 70 m.

- Specific usage
-
Thickness of Holocene sediments tells where sediments are deposited today on the seabed, and where little or a lot of sediments have been deposited during the last 11,700 years. In some areas the sediments have been exposed to erosion. This information can be used for research and investigations of e.g. sedimentation environment, sedimentation rates, habitat types, pollution and seabed stability.

The thickness is given in milliseconds (ms) two way travel time (TWT). P-wave velocity in soft marine clays in the Norwegian Trench is 1500-1550 m/s, and milliseconds should be multiplied by 0,75 in order to obtain the thickness in metres.
