Hiking and outdoor recreation routes WFS
WFS service showing hiking and outdoor recreation routes in Norway. This service shows hiking and outdoor recreation routes in Norway. The dataset includes footpaths, ski slopes, cycling routes, other routes and adaptation measures in outdoor recreation areas. The data can be used in processes according to the Planning and Building Act (municipal planning and case management, e.g. building applications) in municipalities, for analyses, reporting, lookups and visualisation of routes for the planning of hiking.

COMMISSION REGULATION (EC) No 1205/2008 of 3 December 2008 implementing Directive 2007/2/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards metadata, Part D 4, Classification of Spatial Data Services
- Specific usage
-
This data must act as a tool for the municipality for case management, planning and reporting, ensuring good administration of outdoor recreation areas by providing important basic information for efforts to map and value outdoor recreation areas and acting as important basic information for work on municipal path and trail plans, ensuring good mapping data for rescue activities and callouts and acting as a basis for derived outdoor recreation products.
When data is gathered in a national database, all users of the dataset will have the same starting point that can form a basis in other products.
The dataset is suitable as a basis at all levels of planning and building work; in national plans, county, regional and municipal plans, building projects, RAV analyses and impact assessment. The geometry in particular is important to indicate where routes and trails run. In addition, attributes such as special route type, route type and route importance can indicate more about the kind of route and/or trail registered.

The Ministry assigned the Norwegian Mapping Authority the task of working together with the Norwegian Environment Agency on a joint initiative for establishment of national path and trail data in 2009. Work then commenced on a field standard for outdoor recreation. An initial version of a product specification for national hiking and outdoor recreation routes was completed in December 2013, and a database and procedures for storage of data in the database were operational from the same time (December 2013). Data has been stored regularly in the database since then.CompletenessData is collected via the public solution **Rett i kartet** and by agreement with data owners such as municipalities, counties, teams/associations, voluntary organisations and others. The completeness of the dataset varies from area to area as the collection of data is based largely on voluntary reporting. Positioning accuracyRequirements concerning accuracy when collecting data are important in order to achieve data collection that is as consistent as possible. Always aiming to achieve data that is as accurate as possible is preferred. Data received is always compared with primary data, e.g. **FKB-TraktorvegSti**, and there are separate routines for swapping geometry with available geometry of better quality. The quality of the routes is dependent on the measurement methods or registration methods used for the route in question and may be of varying accuracy, detail and completeness depending on the sources from which the data originates. It is therefore important for the user to read the quality information for the data and assess this when using the data. The basis for defining a hiking route may be formed by various objects from e.g. **FKB-TraktorvegSti**, N50 Map Data or digitised routes from various hiking maps, orthophotos or other basic maps. Data may also be gathered using handheld GPS devices. If geometry is taken from other bases, the quality must follow the geometry. For example, if basic data is retrieved from N50 or FKB, the quality coding from this data will be retained. Data harvested using GPS, entered digitally or manually on a map is coded as recommended in section 5.1.2.11 Measurement method. On account of various error sources, it is not possible to specify accuracy better than 1 m in the national database for hiking and outdoor recreation routes even though GPS itself could essentially provide this. Using best quality of 10-15 m is recommended. Measurement method and accuracy in ground plans are required attributes, while visibility is an optional attribute. Attribute accuracyData is collected via the public solution **Rett i kartet** and by agreement with data owners such as municipalities, counties, teams/associations, voluntary organisations and others. The attribute accuracy is dependent on the data source and will vary. Timing accuracyData capture date describes when the data is imported. Data capture date may be the time of an aerial photo during construction, when the hiking route is mapped in the terrain or when the route is reported to Norwegian Mapping Authority.Logical consistencyThe data follows the rules in the product specification.
