Data quality of depths in nautical products WMS
The service shows the data quality of the depths in Norwegian nautical products. Data quality says something about the survey methods, accuracy of position and depth and grade of full area search.\\n\\nOfficial nautical charts are divided into different navigation purposes/scale classes, following recommendations from the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). There is a difference in generalization in the different scales and the zoomlevel of the service is similarly adatpted to the scales Overview, General, Coastal, Approach, Harbour and Berthing.\\n\\nIt is the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) that regulates the categories into which data quality is divided. Data quality is divided into different quality categories, so-called Zones of Confidence (ZOC). There are five different ZOC categories, where A1 is the best and D is the worst. In addition, there is a category U, which shows areas where data quality has not been considered. This dataset also shows areas that have not been measured and depths are unknown.

- Specific usage
-
Anyone who is planning a voyage or other type of activity in Norwegian coastal areas and who needs to know whether it is surveyed and what data quality the depth information in the nautical products have. Depending on the answer, extra care or other considerations must be taken if the data quality is not sufficient for the purpose.\\n\\nPay particular attention to information about data quality in depth data when travelling in the areas around Svalbard. The depth mapping is not complete, and large areas remain.

- Statement
-
The Norwegian Mapping Authority complies with international standards. The depths in the Norwegian nautical products are classified based on what is known about measurement methods, positioning instruments, depth accuracy and data coverage in Norwegian waters. Areas that are not sea-measured are also marked in the navigation products to warn that the depths of the area are not known.
