This service includes overview data of depth conditions in the Norwegian Sea areas and detailed shadow reliefs along the coast of northern Norway. The data comes from different sources and is of widely varying quality. The overview data must only be used as background information. The detailed shadow reliefs are based on good quality modern surveys.

The service provides an overview over chartered/surveyed areas of the Norwegian sea areas. Bathymetry has been collected over a long period, by various actors and with different equipment. In the attribute table of the dataset, there are details such as the year of measurement, mapping method, data owner/which actor collected the data, equipment, echo sounder type, specification, and resolution. This service is based on OGC API Features. OGC API is a group of new standards being developed by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) to make it easier to access geographic data on the web. Not all GIS software has established support for all the new standards, which means that for example one must use a vector tiles connection to this service when using QGIS.

The map service features wide variety of land forms and landscapes on the sea floor. Marine landscape is defined as a larger geographical area with visually uniform character. The interpretation is based on low-resolution depth data and parameters that can be extracted directly from these. The classification performed here is based on Naturtyper i Norge (NiN).

The main chart series covers the coast of Norway from the border with Sweden to Grense-Jakobselv. The scale is normally 1:50,000. This also includes port chart series, which are nautical charts at more detailed scales which show ports and seaward approaches along the coast of Norway. Planning charts at less detailed scales are also included in this service. The coastal chart series is not included in the service. Updates are imported approx. Once a fortnight as Efs publishes them. Layers can be changed or removed in the future without notification.

This service contains generalized depth curves in the Norwegian Sea, as well as detailed shadow reliefs along the coast of Northern Norway. The data is not detailed. The depth curves come from very different sources and have widely varying quality and accuracy. The overview data must only be used as background information. The detailed shadow reliefs are of good quality because they are based on modern surveys.
