Seabed sediments (genesis) describes the geological processes behind deposition of the sediments in the uppermost 1-2 m of the seabed. The map is equivalent to Quaternary maps on land. The dataset series comprise three datasets: Seabed sediments (genesis), overview, Seabed sediments (genesis), regional and Seabed sediments (genesis), detailed. The three individual datasets are digitized in different scales and have different data coverage.

Seabed sediments and sedimentary environment. The map service presents the grain size composition, relative hardness and the genesis of the of the seabed sediments in Norwegian marine areas. The thickness of Quaternary sediments on the Norwegian Shelf and the thickness of the Holocene sediments in the Skagerrak are also presented.
-
Map layer shows surface sediments (superficial deposits) on the seabed in mapped areas along the Norwegian coast. Superficial deposit as a property describes the mode of formation (genesis). The maps are digitized with a view to presentation at a scale of ca. 1:100 000 - 1:250 000 (regional mapping).

Map layer shows surface sediments (superficial deposits) on the seabed in mapped areas along the Norwegian coast. Superficial deposit as a property describes the mode of formation (genesis). The maps are digitized with a view to presentation at a scale of ca. 1:20 000 - 1:150 000 (detailed mapping). Seabed sediments classified by genesis (quaternary geology).
