  • Name of marine areas, banks, shallows and depths in Norwegian sea areas.

  • The map layer places the names of Barents Sea, Norwegian Sea and North Sea.

  • Interactive map tool showing data connected to aquaculture and fisheries. The Directorate's data can here be seen in conjunction with other relevant data for use in the management of costal and marine areas. There is a selection of background maps to choose from, including satelite photographs. The service features a useful search facility- users can search for places or themes within the map. Maps can be shared by email or link, or can be printed out. Most of the data is downloadable. There is a user guide for the service.

  • Seabed sediments (genesis) describes the geological processes behind deposition of the sediments in the uppermost 1-2 m of the seabed. The map is equivalent to Quaternary maps on land. The dataset series comprise three datasets: Seabed sediments (genesis), overview, Seabed sediments (genesis), regional and Seabed sediments (genesis), detailed. The three individual datasets are digitized in different scales and have different data coverage.

  • Accumulation basins are the natural depressions on the sea floor with very weak bottom currents and prevailingly fine grained sediments. The renewal of bottom water in natural depressions on the seafloor my be so slow, that input of extra organic matter (f.ex. from fish farms) may result in reducing conditions.

  • Glacial erosional escarpment

  • Sediment waves on the sea floor. The data set is digitized on the basis of detailed bathymetry / shaded relief map.

  • Moraine ridges and small moraines in fjords and on Norwegian continental shelf, shown as lines.

  • Hydrographic survey data is the most detailed depth data that the Norwegian Mapping Authority, Hydrographic Service has. This data has been collected by mapping the seabed in Norwegian coastal and sea areas. Detailed depth data for large areas of the coast has been gathered using multibeam echo sounders. Only older surveys with less detailed resolution are available for other areas. Older data is being replaced regularly as new data is collected. Hydrographic survey data includes several types of depth information. The main products are point data with position and depth (.xyz), in addition to log data (.all). For more recent surveys, log data containing backscatter information and water column data (.wcd) is also available.

  • Regular grids with 50m x 50m resolution which show the terrain variation on the seafloor in Norwegian sea/ocean areas. The grid model was generated by interpolating the original depth data from the primary database of the Norwegian Mapping Authority Hydrographic Service. Therefore the data has varying quality with regard to the reliability of both the positions and the depths.
