Detailed shaded relief images of submarine landscapes with indication of depth.

The dataset consists of over 62 000 data points, obtained during hydrographic surveys in fjords and coastal areas of Norway from Barents Sea in north to Oslofjord in south. Data points provide an indication of which type of sediment can be expected on the bottom (for example, whether it is coarse grained or fine grained). The distribution of seabed sediments is closely related to the physical conditions and tells about the submarine landscape, currents, waves and sedimentary processes.
-
Terminal moraines (ice marginal deposits) in Norwegian fjords and coastal areas are mapped because of their importance to organisms living on or above the seabed. Terminal moraines are interpreted based on available detailed bathymetry data.
-
Modelled biotopes on the Mid-Norwegian Shelf. Seven biotopes have been identified in the area through the use of multivariate statistics, based on bathymetry, geology and dominating fauna.
-
Modelled biotopes in the NordlandVI area. MAREANO video data were to determine the biological communities and this information was put together with bathymetry, terrain and geological data to model the overall distribution of biotopes. Nine biotopes have been identified in the area through the use of multivariate statistics.
-
Index layer showing the areas where mapping and/or modelling of shell sand is carried out.
-
Distribution of shell sand localities based on modelling. Modelling is based on data collected by NGU, and carried out by NIVA, in the frame of nation program for mapping of biological diversity.
-
The map service features wide variety of land forms and landscapes on the sea floor. Marine landscape is defined as a larger geographical area with visually uniform character. The interpretation is based on low-resolution depth data and parameters that can be extracted directly from these. The classification performed here is based on Naturtyper i Norge (NiN).
-
Modelled biotopes on the TromsII/NordlandVII area. Analyses of species counts from 222 video transects has allowed to identify ten different biotopes in Troms II/ Nordland VII area. Geological, morphological and oceanographic variables have been used for spatial prediction of the distribution of biotopes across area.
-
Marine areas with shell sand on the bottom. The extent of the areas is based on actual mapping. There are two categories of the shell sand localities: Proven - verified with sampling; Possible - area limits are based on accustic data.
