  • The BarentsWatch WMS service provides the service layers used for the services at barentswatch.no and a few additional layers in order to make the information more accessible for other uses. The service layers can be adapted further if needs are clarified. Some service layers that are not appropriate for external use are not referred to. All the service layers are based on data from other agencies. Therefore, BarentsWatch/the Norwegian Coastal Administration are not the owners of all the data. If BarentsWatch does not add new information and the service layer is already presented by the data owner, it is not added to Geonorge even if it occurs in the service. See also BarentsWatch API for other access to the same data.

  • All data shown in BarentsWatch Fish Health is available for use in other applications. Fish Health shows information on salmon lice and disease in fish at fish farming facilities working with salmon, trout and rainbow trout. Fish Health receives information on salmon lice from the Norwegian Food Safety Authority via Altinn, and is updated every day at 06.00. Salmon lice are counted and reported by the fish farmers. Information reported is shown directly in Fish Health without undergoing quality assurance or being changed by the Norwegian Food Safety Authority or BarentsWatch. There may be errors in the data. The deadline for reporting salmon lice is the Tuesday of the following week. Information on diseases in fish is received from the Norwegian Veterinary Institute, and we receive information on locations and permits from the Aquaculture Register of the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries. The system checks every four hours to see whether they have been any changes, and Fish Health is updated only when data has been changed.

  • The Marine Spatial Management Tool (Arealverktøyet) contains maps that show natural resources, environmental status, business activities, plans and regulations and various reference data. Excerpts from these can be compiled, shared with others and printed. In the analysis module one can follow the development of selected parameters over time or as seasonal variation in maps through a time slider, or as graphs. The assignment to develop a tool for updating the management plans for the maritime zone and dissemination of these, was issued in 2013 to the Forum for Integrated Marine Management and BarentsWatch in the Meld. St. 37 (2012–2013) Report to the Storting (white paper) - "Integrated Management of the Marine Environment of the North Sea and Skagerrak (Management Plan)". The project group that was set up has since developed the solution to what it is today. The first version of the The Marine Spatial Management Tool was launched on November 15, 2016 and it is still under development. The tool is basically designed to support the work of comprehensive management plans for the marine areas and make the knowledge available to the public. The solution shows the professional basis for overall management plans through authoritative data provided by the different sectors. The Refererence guide (in Norwegian) gives a brief introduction to how the system can be used. Contributions and requests for access to the system or wish to attend demonstrations of new functionality can be sent to arealverktoy@barentswatch.no
